Los Peperetes – Artisanal Conservas from Galicia
Los Peperetes is a family-run cannery from Carril, on Galicia’s Ría de Arousa, a region famous for exceptional fish and shellfish. Founded in the early 1990s by Jesús Lorenzo Crespo, whose family had worked in the canning industry for generations, the brand remains closely tied to the seafood traditions of the Galician coast.
The approach is simple: select excellent seasonal raw materials and preserve them with as little interference as possible. Much of the preparation is still carried out by hand, from cleaning and cooking to arranging the seafood in each tin. Olive oil, escabeche and restrained sauces are used to complement rather than overpower the main ingredient.
Los Peperetes is especially known for Galician shellfish such as cockles, mussels, razor clams and clams, alongside sardines, octopus and bonito. Several of its conservas have also received international recognition for their quality.
The name “peperete” is an old Galician expression for something especially delicious. A fitting description of a producer built around excellent seafood, careful craftsmanship and a strong sense of place.
